Success On Guitar Starts With The Right Method

  • Are you unsure what to learn and when to learn it?
  • Have you hit a plateau in your playing, making no progress over weeks, months or even years?

I understand how you feel. In fact, many of the students who’ve come to me have been just like you. They don’t know where to go and they aren’t making any progress.

They see others who make it look easy and they don’t understand what’s wrong with them. Why can’t they play guitar? The traditional step afterwards is to begin to blame their fingers, coordination or something else that they can’t change, so they don’t feel bad.

Learning plateaus are not your fault and they’re not the fault of some unchangeable circumstances. The fault lies with the learning process you’ve been using—it’s INCOMPLETE! Most guitar lesson methods don’t provide the necessary elements for you to grow as a guitar player.

Maybe you tried to teach yourself through YouTube or other online resources:

This is the first thing people usually try to do. Unfortunately, 90% of the people who try to learn from YouTube never make any real significant progress. What the Youtube method lacks is a support system to motivate, engage and direct you in your studies.

The second problem with the YouTube method is that you have to teach yourself, but you don’t have the background or knowledge to do so. Thus you have to learn through trial and error. You’re also going to be bombarded by misleading or inaccurate information offered by every guitar player with a webcam.

You may have tried to teach yourself with books or other paid subscription services that provide video lessons:

These services can be nice supplementary material, but they can’t be the basis of your learning. If you buy books randomly on a whim you’ll be going in a direction that may or may not be in your best interests. There’s no clear path, and you’ll be making your way through music as if it was a jungle and you forgot your machete…progress will be SLOW.

Books and subscription services expand the scope of your musical maze. However, you still lack the necessary skills, tools, and guidance to navigate it.

You may have been disappointed by other guitar teachers in Rochester:

I’ve had many students come to me whose guitar teachers taught song after song for YEARS! This doesn’t work. At Rochester’s School Of Guitar we believe songs are important, but they can’t be the only thing you learn or focus on. Song-only instruction may be a small step up from Youtube, but learning song after song will never make you a good guitar player.

This method is one of the reasons people think they can teach themselves, and with instruction based on songs only, they would be correct.

You don’t need a teacher to teach you songs. That’s all on the internet. You need a teacher to guide you, train you, and help you apply and integrate your skills.

A really great guitar teacher will not only teach you songs. Songs can be a part of the education, but you need to do more than just learn a song as written.

All of these methods are like wandering around in a maze with no map. You may get lucky and make some progress, but most people hit a dead end.

Imagine if you could turn the maze of musical information into a straight and simple path. No more forks in the road, no more unnecessary stress, because you’re traveling with a GPS, and you know exactly where to go and when to go there.

It took me years of studying with the RIGHT teacher and years of studying ALL teaching methods to find out what I was missing so i could make serious progress. You don’t need to waste years. I don’t want you to waste years.

YOU CAN GET THERE FASTER. My teaching methods are the GPS to your musical goals!

You will get to your destination faster. You will remain focused. You will know which paths to take and which ones to avoid.

I will monitor your progress, so that if you slip from your path, I will reroute you and get you moving in the right direction again.

My methods are designed to help keep you accountable, learning more, having more fun, and relaxing through the process. No matter the goal, I can take you right to it.

My path to learning the guitar was bumpy, unclear and unfocused. I spent years learning to undo bad habits I formed while teaching myself for a year!

I felt defeated and upset. I wanted to learn guitar so badly and I knew many people who improved much faster than I did. I definitely didn’t have ANY natural talent. When I just started learning, I tensed so much that my back hurt and I could barely string a couple chords together.

This doesn’t need to happen to you or, if it is already happening to you, you don’t need to keep going through it. End your struggle now!

Imagine if you could:

  • Say good-bye to ruts and plateaus
  • Develop playing skills quickly
  • Have a more fun, and engaging experience
  • Eliminate the stress and guesswork in learning guitar
  • Have a musical outlet besides your bedroom
  • Save time and money by reaching your goals faster
  • Impress your friends with your guitar skills
  • Meet like-minded musicians and people working towards the same goal
  • Enjoy the experience of learning guitar
  • Learn how to practice so that you can make progress every time you pick up the instrument
  • Go more in depth than the typical Rochester guitar lesson
  • Learn a skill you can take with you for the rest of your life

Frequently Asked Questions.

1. Do you have any certifications?

I am a member of the Elite Guitar Teachers Inner Circle.

The Elite Guitar Teachers Inner Circle is a group of expert guitar teachers from around the world who were mentored by the world’s most successful guitar teacher, Tom Hess. In the Elite Guitar Teachers Inner Circle, teachers exchange ideas and teaching methods to provide students with the most effective, efficient and fun lessons possible.

What does this mean for you?

You will be taught and trained using the most effective teaching methods in the world.

I also attended the International Guitar Teachers Super Summit this year, which is a weeklong event held every three years. During this event guitar teachers from around the world meet and train on more advanced teaching concepts. I received 5 individual certifications designed for teaching this innovative format.

2. I see this page focuses primarily on beginners. Do you only teach beginning guitar players? In addition, what styles do you teach?

I teach all levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The focus of this page is on beginners because there are more of them. As far as styles are concerned, I do teach primarily contemporary styles of music, my focus lies on Rock, Pop, Blues and Metal guitar.

3. What if I’m not sure that I’m capable of playing guitar?

This is just in your head. Without even meeting you, I can tell you that you can become the guitar player you want to become. I know and have met many great guitar players of all shapes and sizes—big fingers, long fingers and small fingers. They all played well.

The secret to your ability to play guitar lies in your patience. You need to be patient with yourself. There’s a beginner bump until the 6 to 8 month mark. If you’re patient enough to make it that long, you will be a guitar player.

I will personally make sure you stay persistent and dedicated to yourself so that you can reach that target with ease.

4. How long will this take?

Learning guitar will take as long as it needs to. Everyone is different and has different challenges, but anyone who stays on the path ultimately gets what they came for. My lessons are designed to allow you to work at your own pace and to challenge you at your own specific level.

5. Am I too old to learn guitar?

You’re never too old to learn how to play guitar. Are there a couple of setbacks to learning guitar when you’re older? Yes, there are some. You’ve been using/man handling your hands for a long time now and you’ve probably developed some bad habits, but that shouldn’t upset you.

There is no reason that you can’t become a good guitar player. I have special programs for older students that whips their hands into shape and gets them moving. If you really want it, you can learn to play.

6. When I was learning before, I struggled to stay motivated, and eventually, I didn’t practice at all. Will these lessons help keep me motivated?

The answer to this question is a BIG FAT “YES”. The traditional methods of guitar instruction don’t keep a student motivated to practice. That’s very true. However, Rochester’s School Of Guitar has a method to do just that.

There are programs you may join if you really want to play guitar, but lack the motivation or the discipline to practice regularly on your own. If this is your main problem, I encourage you to contact me and schedule a free introductory lesson where we can discuss the matter in more detail.

7. I don’t live in Rochester. Can I still take lessons?

Of course, you can. Rochester’s School Of Guitar proudly provides guitar lessons for Rochester and all surrounding areas. Some of my students drive all the way from Batavia and Canandaigua on a regular basis. That’s easily a 1 hour roundtrip drive.

8. I’m very busy. Sometimes I work later than other days and I often go out of town for a week at a time. Will I still be able to take lessons?

All lessons times are flexible. You will be able to take lessons at your own convenience. Going out of town often shouldn’t deter you from taking lessons. In fact, I can guarantee that Rochester’s School Of Guitar will provide you with the most flexible lesson schedule compared to any of the the other providers for guitar lessons in Rochester.
